This time, we will be introducing a review of
the RG 1/144 ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam !

RG Destiny Gundam is a 1/144 scale model kit of the MS “ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam” that appears in “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY”. The detailed armor division unique to RG is reproduced based on the actual machine. The kit uses advanced MS joints, making it possible to reproduce dynamic poses. A variety of weapons are included, such as a long-range beam cannon, an Arondight beam sword, and a beam shield. The price is 2,750 yen (tax included).


Developed with the concept of an all-purpose machine capable of handling all areas, combining the characteristics of Impulse’s Force, Sword, and Blast, and piloted by Shin Asuka in the series, the ZAFT military’s latest MS, the ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam, which has been used in many battlefields such as the battle for Heaven’s Base and the battle for Messiah, is now available as an RG kit.
In addition to the devilish face with tears of blood, the sharply designed wing units and the Palma Fiocina palm-mounted beam cannon designed for close-quarters combat, the Destiny Gundam’s distinctive body shape and weapons are reproduced with new molding.


The molding colors are based on Gundam colors of white, blue, red, and yellow, but the white is reproduced in two colors, gray and white, and the wings are reproduced in red and black, giving it a color scheme that combines heroic and heelish qualities.
In addition, the chest and Arondight Beam Sword are reproduced in light blue, the high-energy long-range beam cannon is green, and the interior and joints are molded in dark gray. Foil stickers are not included. Most of the parts are color-coded, so it will be sufficient to finish it without assembly.



The interior and joints use the same “Advanced MS Joint 4” as the RG Freedom Gundam . ABS is used for some of the Advanced MS Joints. The black molded parts are made of KPS material. Part of the exterior is an undergate specification.


No polycaps are used. Equipped with a wing unit, Arondight beam sword, and high-energy long-range beam cannon on the back, it is easy for the rear to be subjected to stress, but the joints are strong enough and the soles of the feet can be placed on the ground in a balanced manner, so it is stable enough to stand on its own.

Includes high-energy beam rifle, Solidus Fulgor beam shield, anti-beam shield, various beam blades (for Arondight beam sword, for beam boomerang: 2 long, 2 short), weapon holding hand (right), movable hands (left and right), flat hands for Palma Fiocina (left and right), Shin Asuka pilot figure, and joint parts for display.

Extra parts such as beam saber blades are included.

A special realistic decal is included. The beam shield is recreated by sticking a sticker onto clear parts. I think they wanted to recreate the gradation, but I think it would have been better to mold the shield in clear blue.


The internal frame is based on the Advanced MS Joint, and is mechanically and precisely designed.

The internal frame of the torso. The shoulders, abdomen, waist, and other parts are designed to be highly movable. The slit molds inside the air intake and the cockpit are also precisely sculpted.


The arms are also molded with frames, and the frames on both the upper arm and forearm slide in accordance with the movement of the elbow.

The legs are also molded with an internal frame. The calves are molded with frame parts that match the silhouette of the Destiny Gundam. Some of the dowel pins have gates, so be careful not to cut off the dowel pins by mistake, thinking they are gates.
Next, we will look at each part with the exterior assembled.

Head. In addition to the sharp V-shaped antenna, the blood tears and the mask without the U-shaped slits are precisely sculpted. The blood tears, the left 17.5mm CIWS, the ducts, etc. are also color-coded with parts. When combining the left and right helmet parts, there is a slight seam in the center of the forehead. (It doesn’t fit perfectly…?;)

The helmet is a left and right combination, but the seam at the back of the head is a stepped mold. Other parts are also configured so that there are no seams.

The twin eyes and the front and rear sensors of the crest are recreated using stickers on clear parts. You can also make the most of the clear parts by painting them.

The torso. It’s not flashy, but the armor with edges is stylishly designed. Each part of the exterior is also color-coded in detail, giving it an RG feel.

The neck does not have much movement, but the shoulders have an Advanced MS joint structure that allows them to swing widely forward.

The cockpit can be deployed. It has a slightly complicated structure, and both the upper and lower armor can be deployed. It is difficult to pull out the upper armor, so it may be better to pull it out by hooking it with tweezers or something.

There is a seat inside the cockpit. The pilot figure is not included.


The waist is molded in two colors, white and light gray, on both the front and rear armor, and the side armor is also color-coded with parts such as thrusters, making it look realistic.

The back of the waist armor has a molded design. It’s a small part so it seems difficult to paint it differently, but if you can color it differently, it will emphasize the realism.

The crotch area has a movable gimmick, and by sliding it as shown in the image, the range of motion of the legs can be expanded. However, since the parts are intricate and delicate, you should avoid manipulating them too much and damaging them.

Arms. These are also not flashy, but each part has a mechanical mold design unique to RG. The Flash Edge 2 beam boomerang on the shoulder and the beam shield generator on the hand are also unique designs unique to Destiny Gundam.


Both the upper arms and forearms are made by carefully combining exterior parts with Advanced MS Joints, so there are no seams.

The shoulder armor is also made up of parts that do not have any seams.


The Flash Edge 2 Beam Boomerang handle on the side is removable. By attaching the included beam blade (long or short), it can be used as a boomerang or beam saber. Be careful when assembling the beam blade.

Like the arms, the legs are also intricately molded with intricate detail.


The thighs and knees below are constructed by carefully assembling the exterior parts to the frame, so there are no seams. You may be a little concerned about the gaps in the shins.

The knees can bend deeply. There is no sliding exterior gimmick, but the knee armor does deploy a little.

The rear armor can be deployed, and the thrusters can be pulled out from the inside.

The sole is sharply sculpted, and the exterior is a simple light grey and red color scheme.

背部にはウイングユニットやバックパックの他、アロンダイトビームソードや高エネルギー長射程ビーム砲を装備。特徴的なウイングユニットによってデスティニーガンダムのシルエットが印象付けられています。

バックパックは横長ダボ接続。適度に固定強度があるため、簡単には外れません。背部もパーツで細かく色分けされていてRGらしいメカニカルさがありますね。

バックパックは内部にアドバンスド・MS・ジョイントパーツをはさみつつ、外装を左右から被せていく複雑な構造。ですが外装も合わせ目は段落ちモールド化されるなどきっちりとした作りになっています。後部スラスターも3重にパーツで色分けされていてリアル。上部装甲は可動します。

バックパック後部にはアロンダイトビームソードと高エネルギー長射程ビーム砲をマウントするためのアームを装備。

アームはボールジョイントやダボ接続で適度に展開可能。アロンダイトビームソード、高エネルギー長射程ビーム砲のホルダーは左右の組み合わせですが合わせ目はモールド化されています。

ウイングユニットは棘感があり、コウモリの羽やマントのような雰囲気を感じさせるヒール的な要素を持ったデザイン。一部モールドは付属のリアリスティックデカールで色分けするようになっています。

外側のウイングは幅広く展開可能。内側の3枚羽もまとめて上下可動します。


外側(上側)のウイングは左右の組み合わせで上部に合わせ目ができます。内側の3枚羽を挟むので、合わせ目を消したい場合は色々と手間がかかりそう。下部のウイングは1個パーツ構成で合わせ目はなし。


上下のウイングはスラスターやスリットモールドなどのパーツで内側を補うようになっています。RGならではの細かい配慮。
ウイング基部は適度に上下可動します。
前後へもある程度スイング可能。ただしアドバンスド・MS・ジョイントによる可動なので動かしても元に戻りやすいのと、弄りすぎると基部パーツがバラけて外れる場合があるので注意です。


高エネルギー長射程ビーム砲。MSの携帯火器の中でも最強クラスの大型ビームランチャーになります。速射性能も高いため、咄嗟の迎撃にも対応が可能。グリーンを基調としたミリタリー調のカラーリングになっています。ストライクのアグニを意識した感じも。

砲身部は展開可能。展開することでロングサイズのビーム砲に変化します。




砲身部、基部ともに内外パーツの組み合わせで合わせ目はありません。内側の黒いパーツもモールドが細かくデザインされていてリアル。砲口は別パーツ化されているので、塗り分けると見栄えが良くなりそうですね。

折りたたみ部分はヒンジではないので適度な強度があります。グリップはロールや上下などフレキシブルに可動します。細かいパーツの組み合わせなので、動かす際は少し注意が必要かも。

背部アームの可動により、高エネルギー長射程ビーム砲をホルダーに組み付けたまま前方に展開することができます。

アロンダイトビームソード。ソードインパルスのエクスカリバーやグフイグナイテッドのテンペストの発展型で、対艦刀を兼ねた近接戦用大型ビームソードになります。
こちらも先端部が展開可能な他、グリップ上の柄が展開可能となっています。



こちらも構造は高エネルギー長射程ビーム砲と同じ。黒い基部パーツにライトブルーの外装パーツを被せるなどで合わせ目が出来ない構造になっています。先端の実態刃や側面のモールドもパーツで色分けされるなど、RGらしい緻密さ。

こちらも可動部はヒンジではないので適度な強度があります。

HG陸戦型ジム、HGルプスレクスと並べてサイズを比較。陸ジムよりも少し大きいくらい。デスティニーガンダムの全高は18.08mです。


HGCEデスティニーガンダムと並べて。RGはアドバンスド・MS・ジョイント構造なので、全高は他の同構造RGと同じ大きさになっています。なのでHGCEと比べると若干小柄に。造形的にはRGのほうがメカニカルにデザインされていてリアル。


同アドバンスド・MS・ジョイント構造のRGストライクフリーダムガンダム(塗装済み)、KPSのフレーム構造のRGフォースインパルスガンダムと並べて。インパルスガンダムはMGと同じ独自フレームなのでプロポーションが完璧。

頭部は少し上下する程度。左右へは干渉なくスムーズにスイングします。

腕は水平以上に上げることができます。肘は2重関節で深くまで曲げることが可能。

肩は後方へは殆どスイングしませんが、前方へはアドバンスド・MS・ジョイントの可動ギミックで広めにスイングします。

腹部の可動ギミックにより、上半身を適度に前後させることができます。

腰部アーマーが干渉するため、腰は少しロールする程度。アクションベースやスタンドへは、付属のジョイントパーツを股間部に組み付けてのディスプレイです。

前後開脚は前後とも水平程度まで展開可能。

膝は深くまで曲げることができます。

足首は前後左右ともまずまず可動。

左右への開脚は、サイドアーマーを後方に向けることで干渉が避けられ、水平に程度にまで展開させることができます。

大腿部と股間部が干渉するので、内股は殆ど可動せず。がに股は水平以上に幅広く可動します。

立膝はあまりきれいな姿勢ではないですが、適度に再現できるようでした。
可動域の総括としては、全体的に可動域は広め。多少頭部の上下や腰の回転など不十分な箇所はあるものの、他の箇所は十分な可動域があるので、ある程度、動きのあるポーズは再現出来そうです。

高エネルギービームライフル。インパルスなどに装備されていた物の改良型ビームライフルで、ハイパーデュートリオンエンジンの採用によって出力、速射性能が向上しています。


こちらも合わせ目が出来ないパーツ構成で完成度が高め。

フォアグリップは左右にスイングします。センサーは付属のリアリスティックデカールで白く色分け。高エネルギービームライフルはリアアーマーにマウントすることができます。適度な固定強度があるので簡単には外れません。背部の装備も干渉せず。


アンチビームシールド。こちらもパーツによる色分け再現度が高く、表面には適度にモールドもデザインされています。裏打ちパーツも適度に造形。

表面装甲の下部はスライド展開可能。内部から赤いパーツが露出することでよりデザイン性が高まる構造。インパルスガンダムのシールドと似たような構造ですね。

パルマフィオキーナ 掌部ビーム砲用のハンドパーツ。平手の表情も良いですし、手のひら中央にはビーム砲口がリアルに造形されています。

可動手も付属。こちらはアドバンスド・MS・ジョイントの可動手がそのまま使用されています。

シン・アスカ。ザフトの白赤黒のパイロットスーツ姿で、小さいフィギュアながらもモールドが細かくデザインされています。

一通り武装して。


The high energy beam rifle is held by the included weapon grip. It is a fixed grip and is fixed with a dowel, so it can be held firmly. It can also be held by the movable hand, but the holding strength is not very strong, so it seems better to use the fixed grip.

The small wrist parts come off when rearranging the hand parts, so it may be a bit of a hassle to have to reassemble the small parts every time you rearrange the grip.

The wings on the back and other parts are well sculpted, so even just having him take a simple pose holding the high-energy beam rifle is cool enough.


Holding it with both hands is also quite good. Holding it with both hands requires the movable hand to hold the foregrip, but the finger parts are delicate and tend to fall off. So it seems better to just attach it to the figure. The hand parts are generally easy to come off, but the hand parts of the movable hand are particularly easy to come off, so care must be taken.

The shield can be fixed to the forearm with a dowel, so it can be held stably without falling off. The fact that the angle cannot be changed is a drawback, but it allows you to recreate defensive poses.

To equip the Solidus Fulgor Beam Shield, first remove the yellow parts on the gauntlets and then assemble. Note that the fixing strength is not very strong and it may come off with even the slightest interference.

The molded color looks rather dull, so it would look better with a realistic decal or paint.

The Arondight Beam Sword is held in the movable hand. By attaching the beam blade, it becomes a more solid weapon. It is fixed to the palm of the hand with a dowel and the fingers grip it, so it can be held fairly firmly.

However, if you try to hold it in both hands, or try to pose it as you see in the movie, the dowels on the palms come loose, the Advanced MS Joints on the shoulders come loose, and the hand protector parts come loose, causing a chain reaction of them falling off, making it extremely difficult to pose it;

Be careful when holding it with one hand as the weight can cause your arm to sag.

The high-energy, long-range beam cannon is gripped by the movable hand, but is fixed to the palm with a dowel so it can be held firmly.


At first, it can be a little difficult to get the doll to grip something, as the fingers of the movable hand are wobbly and the back of the hand comes off. However, once you get the doll to grip something, it becomes firm, so it’s easy to handle after that.


Palma Fiocina The hand parts for the palm beam cannon can be easily rearranged. If you do not hold any weapons, the kit will be lightly armored, making it much easier to pose.


The Flash Edge 2 Beam Boomerang is not fixed with a dowel, so you hold it by gripping it with your movable hand. It’s a little unstable to hold, so it may flip over in some cases. It’s light, so it’s easier to handle than other weapons.

Since it is an RG, the exterior is very detailed and sharp. The parts are finely divided and color-coded with a high degree of reproducibility, so even simple poses will look good and stand out for their coolness. The figure has a moderate range of motion, allowing for dynamic poses. The wing unit on the back is also movable, giving the figure a great sense of presence.
There are a few points of concern. The hand armor and some of the exterior parts tend to fall off, and the joints also come off, making it difficult to pose the figure. The high-energy beam rifle has a fixed handle, but the Arondite beam sword is held by a movable hand, making it quite difficult to hold.
The same goes for the other armaments. If you do not care about the appearance, you may want to use a fixed handle (for the high-energy beam rifle) to hold the armament.
The delicate advanced MS-joint structure from a long time ago means that there are many parts that require care in handling, but there are many good parts, such as the amount of information that only RG can provide, the abundance of armaments, and the high degree of color-coding reproducibility. It also has a charm that draws you in when the posing is right, and it is a good thing that the kit has such good qualities and high quality that it is still too good to give up on it.
