RG 1/144 Unicorn Gundam Banshee Expansion Unit VN/BS Overview

This time, we will be introducing a review of

the RG  1/144 Expansion Unit Armed Armor VN/BS !

The RG Expansion Unit Armed Armor VN/BS is a 1/144 scale model kit of the expansion unit “Armed Armor VN/BS” that can reproduce the “Unicorn Gundam 2nd Unit Banshee Marida Cruz’s machine” that appears in “Mobile Suit Gundam UC”. It can be reproduced by attaching it to the separately sold RG 1/144 Unicorn Gundam 2nd Unit Banshee Norn . The characteristic weapons of the Armed Armor BS and Armed Armor VN are sculpted with high detail conforming to RG standards. The price is 1,620 yen (tax included). This product is limited to Premium Bandai.

The set includes Armed Armor BS, Armed Armor VN, and a Marida Cruz figure. The molding color is the same dark blue as the RG Banshee Norn. However, while the Banshee Norn’s dark blue was two-tone, this set only seems to be one-tone. The Psycho Frame and gold parts are molded in the same clear orange and gold as the Banshee Norn.

Includes realistic decals for Armed Armor VN/BS.

A Marida Cruz figure in a pilot suit. It’s quite small, but finely sculpted.

Armed Armor BS. It is a fixed weapon with a distinctive shape. “BS” is an abbreviation for “Beam-Smartgun”. It is already assembled, but when installing it, it is disassembled and attached.

The open barrel type generator directly connected beam rifle can be deployed.

The barrel section also slides out, and when deployed, the Psycho Frame is exposed.

To attach it to the Banshee Norn, simply remove the armor on the forearms and attach the Armed Armor VN. It fits snugly on both sides, so it is very strong.

Armed Armor VN. It is a fixed weapon for close combat equipped with four claws. “VN” is an abbreviation of “Vibro-Nail”. Before assembly, it is divided into left and right halves. It is a combination of multiple parts, and each part can move finely. There is also a mold like a duct on the inside.

The upper claw has two movable parts.

The ball joint at the base allows it to be deployed widely to the rear and also spread moderately to the left and right.

The lower claw also deploys by sliding on two axis parts.

It can be moved in two places, so it can be bent left and right as well.

To attach it to the Banshee Norn, simply remove the forearm armor and attach the Armed Armor VN. The mounting strength is high, but since it is simply attached by placing it over the arm, it may become easier to come off over time due to deterioration.

The backpack can be assembled using surplus parts from the RG Banshee Norn to create a standard backpack.

Equipped with Armed Armor VN/BS, checked in Unicorn mode. It balances well with the RG Banshee, and has a style that doesn’t look out of place when equipped. I don’t have the HG Banshee on hand so I couldn’t compare. Thank you for your understanding m(_ _)m

The RG Banshee itself has worn down over the years, and various parts have become loose and fall off, making it a little difficult to pose. However, the Unicorn mode is still quite sturdy, so it wasn’t too stressful.

The scenes from the movie were also appropriately recreated. The Armed Armor VN/BS was able to be posed without coming off at all.

Transform into Destroy Mode. This one also has good balance. Both Armed Armor VN/BS are deployed, so it’s very impressive.

Because each part opens up, it is more difficult to pose than the Unicorn mode, but if you adjust the closed parts bit by bit while posing it, it wasn’t so much hassle that it was stressful.

By spreading out the four claws of Armed Armor VN, you can recreate some impressive poses.

For both Armed Armor VN and BS, the Psycho Frame parts glow when illuminated with a black light.

Well, here are a few of them.

The coolness of the Destroy Mode is overwhelming. Unlike MG or PG, you can enjoy the compactness and well-balanced shape that only RG of 1/144 size can offer.

This concludes the review of the RG Expansion Unit Armed Armor VN/BS. Next is a review of the package and runners for the RG Expansion Unit Armed Armor VN/BS.

The package illustration shows Banshee standing in the center, with Armed Armor BS on the left and Armed Armor VN on the right. All are shown in Destroy Mode.

The back side shows the model in Unicorn mode, along with the gimmicks of each part, set contents, decals, figures, etc.

Contains one bag of runners.

The manual is in black and white and states that it cannot be attached to a completed model, and although it is recommended to assemble it using an unassembled RG Banshee Norn, it can also be attached to an assembled Banshee Norn by simply disassembling it partially.

The color guide (color chart) is the same as that described in the RG Banshee Norn instruction manual .

↑R runner. Molded in dark blue, it features the various exterior parts of the Armed Armor VN/BS and a Marida Cruz figure.

S1, S2 and Realistic Decal ↑S1 is clear orange color and psycho frame parts, S2 is gold color and claw blade parts for Armed Armor VN, S3 is gold color and claw blade parts for Armed Armor VN/BS, S4 is clear orange color and psycho frame parts.

The above decals will not affect the proportions of the RG Banshee, and you can enjoy the Banshee in a well-balanced style even when equipped with the Armed Armor VN/BS. Both Armored Armor VN/BS have a lot of movable parts, and the performance of the attack scene will be more powerful.

I am concerned about the RG Banshee, because it seems to be deteriorating over time, and parts are falling off more frequently, making posing more difficult. The RG Unicorn Gundam was not so bad, but the Banshee was prone to falling off, so there may be an effect of the molding color or individual differences.

The compact size of 1/144 is also attractive because it is easy to display, and you can enjoy the realism that only RG can provide, so why not enjoy the high quality and powerful Marida Banshee equipped with Armored Armor VN/BS?
