Customize Your Gundam: MiraSoul Flight Unit Insights

This time, we will be reviewing

the HG 1/144 MiraSoul flight unit equipment !

The HG Mirasoul Flight Unit Equipment is a 1/144 scale model kit of the Mirasoul Flight Unit equipped on the Gundam Aerial in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury. The distinctive unit shape is reproduced with new molding. In addition to the side thruster exposure gimmick, the kit also allows for a saber grip (saber handle) to be attached inside. It also comes with an expressive open hand for the HG Gundam Aerial (sold separately). The price is 880 yen (tax included).

The MiraSoul Flight Unit, an external high-mobility propulsion unit prepared by the students of the Earth dormitory in preparation for their duel with Elan Ceres of the Pale dormitory, has been made into an HG kit. The futuristic shape of the unit has been reproduced with new molding. Accessories include the MiraSoul flight unit and two flat hands (left and right).

Special foil stickers are included to recreate the white line moldings on each part of the unit, the grey underside of the verniers, and the internal ducts on the thruster parts.

MiraSoul flight unit. Based on a junk MS flight unit manufactured by the third-party MiraSoul, it has been adjusted and improved to suit aerial use, with changes to the variable thrust timing and the addition of a rack for beam sabers. The thruster parts stored on both sides are exposed, making it a unit that can also recreate the high maneuver mode that supports high-speed three-dimensional activation.

The molding color is dark blue with yellow and gray coloring on various parts. The inside of the central thruster needs to be painted yellow, the inside of the unit vernier needs to be painted dark gray, etc., but the color separation is reproduced sufficiently even with unpainted assembly.

The dark blue and gray molded parts are made of matte KPS. No ABS or polycaps are used. It is made entirely from assembled parts. As with the HG Mercury Witch series kits, it is well-made and has a high level of completion.

The central backpack is a compact box type. The left and right sides are joined together in a structure of dark blue armor, which creates a small seam at the edge. It seems like it would be a pain to assemble it later, so it might be better to carve a step-down mold on the other side as well. There are no slits inside the lower thruster. The edges need to be painted yellow.

The arms are split into two parts, so there is a seam at the top. The seam at the bottom is molded with a step-down pattern. The seam seems a bit wasteful, but the molding color is dark and not very noticeable, so it doesn’t seem like you need to worry too much about it. Be careful about the orientation when assembling.

Flight unit. This is a vertically long flight unit with a highly designed design. The thrusters on the sides and the gray armor on the top are finely colored with parts, giving it a high level of completion. Partial line molding is colored with white stickers.

The dark blue armor has some seams when combined with the left and right sides. It’s difficult to remove, so it’s probably better to mold it in with a step-down technique.

The thruster parts on the side of the unit can be pulled out. There is a gap to hook your claws, so you can pull it out easily. There is no rotation gimmick like in the movie. Gray and black stickers are attached to the inside, but since the same mold is sculpted, there should be no problem if you paint it.

The armor under the vernier is covered with a gray sticker, but since the parts are color-coded, you can leave it unpainted. The edges of the vernier need to be painted yellow and the inside dark gray.

The rib of the saber holder at the bottom can be raised. By attaching the saber handle of the HG Gundam Aerial (sold separately), it can be used as a holder.

It can also be stored compactly.

To attach to the HG Gundam Aerial, remove the Aerial’s backpack and attach it.

Attach the Mirasoul flight unit to the HG Gundam Aerial. Just attaching the Gambit to the whole body gives it a heavy feel, but by attaching the flight unit, it becomes an even more heavy-duty Gundam Aerial.

The units are reproduced in a dark blue molding color not found on Gundam Aerial, but they do not look out of place when combined and seem to fit well with the design.

The flight unit itself is relatively light, but when equipped, it puts a little weight on the rear, making it more likely to tip over. However, it is possible to stand on its own by adjusting the balance, such as by tilting it forward.

The left and right units can move up and down with the arms connected by ball joints. The fixing strength is high so the shape will not easily collapse. The arms are also movable with two ball joints, so it is easy to give the units different expressions.

It can be flexibly moved left and right, inward and outward.

Even when you move Aerial’s arms, there is no interference with the back unit, so you can concentrate on posing without any worries.

The aerial poses are still as cool as ever, and the freely movable back unit gives the poses a more dynamic feel.

Since the unit is flexibly movable, it is easy to recreate the pose of taking out the saber handle.

Deploy the thrusters on the back to enter high maneuver mode.

The deployed thrusters are noticeable, giving it a slightly more mechanical feel than the normal unit form.

Comes with a flat hand with a natural expression.

By using flat hands, you can create a pose with a more natural and soft expression.

It is also possible to recreate a pose with his hand on the rifle.

Some say that this is to recreate the famous scene, but it is also possible to recreate the scene where they sing happy birthday to Elan without taking into account the control room.

Equip it to the HG Demi-Trainer . It seems to match the shape very well, and it makes for a cool, customized Demi-Trainer. If you equip it to a kit other than the Aerial, you will need to remove the backpack before attaching it.

Equipped on the HG Daril Balde . It matches well with this one too. The Daril Balde has a unique suit design, but it doesn’t look strange or out of place when combined.

Equip it on the HG Gundam Falact . In the case of the Falact, the backpack and shoulder unit are omitted, so it looks light and lonely.

Equipped on HG Michaelis. It feels a little strange, but it’s not that bad. Be careful, though, because it puts a lot of pressure on the rear and makes it more likely to fall over.

Please feel free to take a few.

This concludes the review of the HG 1/144 MiraSoul flight unit kit. Next is the package and runner review.

The package illustration shows the Gundam Aerial and Demi-Trainer kits equipped with MiraSoul flight units, along with all the contents. The Aerial has the back unit deployed, and the included open hand expression.

The package size is the same as option sets such as HGBC.

The side images provide a brief introduction to the contents, as well as poses when attached to the Aerial and Demi-Trainers, and a quick look at the deployment gimmicks of the thrusters and saber holder.

Opened. There is one bag of runners in total.

Instruction manual. The front page describes how to assemble the MiraSoul flight unit. The back page describes how to equip it to a separately sold kit, how to deploy it into high maneuver mode, how to assemble the flat hand, etc.

The color guide is also included.

↑G1 runner. It is a dark blue, yellow, and white color plastic runner, and includes the flight unit body, thrusters, connecting arms, and some armor parts of the backpack. The dark blue molded parts are made of KPS material.

↑G2 runner. A dark blue and grey colored plastic runner that contains the flight unit itself, connecting arms, flat hands, backpack base parts, etc. Made of KPS material.

↑upFoil seal.

That’s all. Although there are some joints, the modeling is solid and easy to handle, and the movable strength is high, so you can move the figure with confidence. Although inexpensive, the thruster deployment gimmick and saber holder are well reproduced, and like the other HG Mercury Witch series, it is a highly complete unit.

There are virtually no points of concern. Because of its high design, it does not look out of place when combined with any kit, in fact, it transforms into a better looking and more dignified kit. It is also good that the thrusters can be deployed in high maneuver mode to emphasize the mechanical nature of the unit. It is also the only increase unit for normal aerial use, so you can enjoy the charm of the high maneuver propulsion unit by recreating the style of the Faracto during the battle of Faracto.
