HG Typhoeus Gundam Chimera Review

This time, we will be introducing a review of 

the HG 1/144 Typhoeus Gundam Chimera !

The HG Typhoeus Gundam Chimera is a 1/144 scale model kit of the Gunpla “Typhoeus Gundam Chimera” that appears in the “Gundam Build Series” 10th Anniversary Video “Gundam Build Metaverse”. The large unit, approximately 257mm in height, is reproduced using new parts. In addition to being able to reproduce the MA form, this kit can also reproduce the reflector bit deployment using the display pedestal, the leg unit using joint parts and lead wires, and the ejection state of the arms . The “Typhoeus Gundam” state by exterior purging can also be reproduced. The price is 8,800 yen (tax included).

The Gunpla “Typhoeus Gundam Chimera” is a large machine that combines the Typhoeus Gundam at its core with the Mobile Fortress “Cutan Twin Dragon Type”, which utterly defeats Masked Lady in episode 1 and overwhelms Rio’s Ra Gundam in episode 3, and is now available as an HG kit.

The Typhoeus Gundam is based on the HG Raphael Gundam *1 , while the Kutan Twin Dragons are based on the Kutan Type 3 *2 and the Psycho Gundam Mk-II, and as their names suggest, they are a chimera-like combination of various kits. *1 Released in September 2010. *2  Included with the HG Gundam Barbatos & Long-distance Transport Booster Kutan Type 3. Released in December 2015.

The molded colors of the centrally stored Typhoeus Gundam are based on gold and black, with red and clear green on the torso. The Kutan Twin Dragon Type is based on red and black, with gold in some areas. The joints, internal parts, thrusters, and other parts are molded in gray.

Seals are provided for the head sensor, shoulders, waist ducts, etc., but there are not many of them.

KPS is used for the grey molded parts.

Some of the runner tags are printed with “HG 1/144 Psycho Gundam Mk-II,” so it may be confirmed that the HGUC Psycho Gundam Mk-II kit will be released.

Polycaps are PC-001A and are installed in each part of the Typhoeus Gundam. The leg units are not designed to be grounded, so they can be displayed floating on the ground using the included pedestal. The pedestal is the same as the one included with the HG Kutan Type 3.

Includes a GN beam rifle, 2 joint parts for dragon head, 2 5-core lead wires, 2 lead wires, 10 modified reflector bits (deployed type), 2 spare modified reflector bits (storage type) (8 already assembled in the kit), nose parts for the Kutan Ssangyong type, 2 types of joint parts, base parts for the smoothbore cannon, and cover parts for the backpack (already assembled in the kit).

Comes with 4 small display stands (with short supports), 6 long supports, 2 short supports, 2 joints for the bottom plate, 12 cylindrical joints, and 4 3.0mm joints. (The 12 cylindrical joints and 3.0mm joints are treated as surplus.)

Many spare parts from the HG Raphael Gundam and HG Kutan Type 3 are included.

First, let’s take a look at each part of the Typhoeus Gundam. If you would like to read a review of the Kutan Twin Dragons Type, Typhoeus Gundam Chimera, please see the table of contents below.

■ Typhoeus Gundam

Typhoeus Gundam. This is the core unit of the Typhoeus Gundam Chimera, developed based on the Raphael Gundam. While some parts of the HG Raphael Gundam are used, the gold and red armor parts are reproduced with new molding. “Typhoeus” is the name of the monster “Typhon” that appears in Greek mythology.

Let’s take a look at each part and compare it with the Raphael Gundam.

The head is lined up with the Raphael Gundam. The shape of the jaw armor is similar, but only the crest part is reused from the Raphael Gundam, and everything else is new. The large antenna on the forehead and other parts give it a samurai feel.

The helmet part is a combination of left and right parts, but the seam at the back of the head is molded with a step.

The fluorescent clear green parts such as the twin eyes and forehead sensor glow when illuminated with a black light.

The torso section uses the base and abdominal parts from the Raphael Gundam, but each part is newly created for the Typhoeus Gundam. Sharp fins are sculpted on the left and right sides of the chest and on the air intakes, giving it a slightly rugged look. The inside of the air intakes is color-coded with black stickers. The base parts for the waist are reused from the Raphael Gundam, but the exterior is a new, vertically elongated part. The armor has a sharp look.

The neck is flexibly movable with polycap connections. The rounded shoulder armor is also flexibly movable in all directions with ball joint connections. The shoulder armor is simply assembled and has seams.

The rear armor can move left and right. The inside of each armor duct is color-coded with black stickers.

The back of the waist armor has molding that follows the shape of the surface, making it look better than having no armor at all.

Most of the arms are reused from the Raphael Gundam, but the coloring has changed from white to black. The shoulder armor is a new, wild gold armor made for the Typhoeus Gundam. The elbow armor is also a new one with a slightly different shape.

The upper arm is cylindrical and has no seams. The forearm has seams at the top and bottom when combined with the left and right. It is separated from the elbow, so it should be easy to remove the seams.

The shoulder armor is a simple front-to-back assembly, and there is a small seam at the top, but since it is at a corner, it is not very noticeable.

The legs are lined up with the Raphael Gundam. Most of it is the same as the Raphael Gundam, but the gold armor on the knees is new for the Typhoeus Gundam. This one has also changed from the white of the Raphael Gundam to all black.

The black armor parts are a combination of left and right parts on both the thighs and below the knees, and the front part has a small seam at the top of the thighs. The back part has a seam in the center. Fortunately, the seam is not very noticeable because it is a black part. The base of the legs can be rolled.

つま先が左右の組み合わせなので、つま先や足裏などに合わせ目ができます。消す場合は後ハメなどの処理が必要。足裏にはメカニカルなモールドが造形。つま先は角度変更が可能です。

背部はラファエルガンダムの装甲がそのままの流用されています。ただしカラーリングが異なるため、少し違った雰囲気に。上部の角型スラスターは上下に可動。背面の表情を変化させることができます。

下部の円形のスラスターはパーツできっちりと色分けされています。

HG陸戦型ジム、HGルプスレクスと並べてサイズを比較。ティフォエウスガンダム単体でもHGとしては大きめ。縦に長いアンテナなどで更に大きく見えます。

HGラファエルガンダムと並べて。一部パーツは流用されているものの、新規外装によって武士のような容姿に変化。頭上の大型ユニットはオミットされています。

頭部は適度に上下しますが、各部が新造されているため、ラファエルガンダムよりは制限されます。

 

左右へは顎が少し干渉しますが、水平までスイングが可能。

ショルダーアーマーが新造されていますが、ラファエルガンダムと同様、腕はY字程度まで上げることができます。肘は壱重関節で90度程度まで曲げることが可能。腰部ボールジョイントで、上半身も適度に反らすことができます。

腰は干渉なく360度回転可能。膝も2重関節で深くまで曲げることができます。うまく調整すれば立膝もある程度きれいな姿勢で再現可能。

股間部がボールジョイントなので、左右への開脚はハの字程度まで。足首も少し可動する程度です。

ティフォエウスガンダム可動域の総括としては、各部が新造されていますが、可動域はラファエルガンダムと大きく変わらず。全体的にまずまず可動するので、ティフォエウスガンダム単体でディスプレイしても十分に映えそうです。

GNビームライフル。ラファエルガンダムが装備しているものと同型の携行火器になります。HGラファエルガンダムからの流用で、程よく厚みのある近未来的なデザインで造形。

簡単な左右の組み合わせで上下に合わせ目ができます。

付属のジョイントパーツを使用することで、ドラゴンヘッドを前腕にマウントさせてシールドとして使用することができます。ジョイントパーツは2箇所にボールジョイントがあるので、ドラゴンヘッドを側面や後部に配置することも可能です。ドラゴンヘッドの詳細は後述します。

バックパックにカバーパーツを被せ、左右に滑腔砲の基部パーツを組み付けることで、ティフォエウスガンダムの背部に滑腔砲を装備させることができます。

滑腔砲本体はクタン参型に付属しているものと同じ。

本体、砲身部分は左右のモナカ割で上下など各面に合わせ目ができます。グリップは左右にスイング可能。

HG MSオプションセット1＆CGSモビルワーカーに付属しているものと並べて。形状自体は殆ど同じですが、このキットに付属している滑腔砲に砲身部の収納ギミックはなし。作りが簡易的なものになっています。

滑腔砲基部は上下に可動。砲口の向きを変化させることができます。左右への可動はありません。

上記の武装をした状態でティフォエウスガンダムを全身から。

アクションベースやスタンドを使って浮かせてディスプレイさせる場合は、通常通り、股間部に3.0mm軸を差し込んでのディスプレイです。

ビームライフルはグリップをハンドパーツに差し込むだけで保持が可能。ただしグリップの太い部分までしっかりと差し込まないと固定されず抜けやすいので注意です。

ビームライフルの上部センサーはラファエルガンダムはクリア成型色でしたが、このティフォエウスガンダムではクリアグリーンに変更されたため見栄えが良くなっていますね。

腕を上げるとショルダーアーマーが滑腔砲の基部パーツと少し干渉し易いので注意。完全に干渉して腕を動かせないわけではないので、しっかりと腕を上げての射撃ポーズは可能です。

ドラゴンヘッドは大柄の武装で、ティフォエウスガンダムの大部分を覆い隠せるため、十分にシールドとしての役割を果たしてくれそうです。

固定強度も適度にあって外れないですし、ボールジョイント接続でフレキシブルに可動するので、柔軟に向きを変えたり干渉を避けたりすることができます。

滑腔砲は背部左右に組み付けられますし、ドラゴンヘッドは両腕部に組付けが可能。各部に装備させることで、かなりボリューム感のある武装状態を再現することができます。

この状態でドラゴンヘッドを展開させればかなり迫力のある攻撃ポーズを再現することが可能。尺の関係もあると思いますが、できれば劇中でもこのような攻撃シーンが見られれば良かったですね。

GNビームライフルがポロリしやすい以外、ポージング時のストレスはありません。ポーズも付けやすいですし、ポージングをサクサクとこなすことができます。

リフレクタービット改を展開した状態でのディスプレイも可能。

もちろん劇中のような軽装状態でのポージングも可能。何気にこの状態のほうが格好良く決まって良いかも。

続いてティフォエウスガンダム・キメラのレビューです。

 

ティフォエウスガンダム・キメラへの合体は、まず滑腔砲装備時に使用したカバーパーツをバックパックに組み付けます。

そしてクタン双竜型の基部に組み付け。基部はKPSによる強固で厚みのあるフレームになっています。

股間部3.0mm穴にもフレームの3.0mm軸を差し込んで固定します。これでティフォエウスガンダムが上下でガッチリと固定されます。

脚部ユニットは裏面のダボ（赤◯）をティフォエウスガンダムの膝部に組み付け。ソール部分も脚部ユニットの装甲パーツで固定します。（ソール側の固定強度は弱め。）

クタン双竜型の大型可動式アームでティフォエウスガンダムの前面を覆い、左右に滑腔砲を組み付けたらティフォエウスガンダム・キメラへ合体完了です。

■ティフォエウスガンダム・キメラ

ティフォエウスガンダム・キメラ。ティフォエウスガンダムをコアユニットとし、クタン双竜型をハルユニット化させてドッキングを行った最強形態です。1/144サイズながら、MASTER GRADEクラスの超火力と超推力を獲得しているとのこと。

頭部周り。中央にはティフォエウスガンダムが格納されていますが、上部左右からクタン参型の大型可動式アームで保護された形になっています。どことなくエイリアン2に登場したパワーローダーに見えなくもない・・・・；

ティフォエウスガンダム取り外すため、大型可動式アームは上部に展開させることができます。

腕部の付け根はハの字程度に展開させることが可能。肩を少し前後させることができます。

腕部はサイコガンダムMk-Ⅱのものが新造。エッジの効いた肉厚な装甲で、ハンドパーツも指先にビーム口のある巨大なものが再現されています。上腕や関節、指はKPSパーツ構成で関節強度は高め。合わせ目は段落ちなどでモールド化されています。

ハンドパーツは指関節まで細かく可動するタイプ。サイコガンダムやジオングのように、指先のビームで攻撃するシーンをリアルに再現することができます。手首も上下にスイング可能。ビーム口内部のモールドも細かいです。

前腕の装甲をスライドさせることで3.0mm穴が露出。

上腕以下を取り外し、付属のケーブル（リード線）とディスプレイ用スタンドを組み合わせることで、腕部の射出状態を再現することができます。3.0mm穴には付属のスタンドが組み付け可能。

ディスプレイ用のスタンドはクリア成型色で、水星の魔女ウェポンディスプレイベースに付属しているものと同じです。台座はジョイントで連結できますし、支柱も延長したり節から枝分かれさせるなど自由に組み替えることができます。

ショルダーアーマーも合わせ目ができないパーツ構成。エッジが効いていて厚みがあり、表面のモールドも細かくデザインされています。各面の丸モールドはゴールドパーツを黒いシールで色分けします。

側面の装甲は展開可能。内側にはメカニカルなモールドが造形されているため、見えてもチープな感じがありません。

腕部はサイコガンダムMk-Ⅱのモビルフォートレス用に変形可能。前腕側面に展開式のダボがありますが、こちらもおそらくHGUCサイコガンダムMk-Ⅱで使用するジョイントですね。

HGUCサイコガンダムが手元にないので、HGサイコジムの腕部と比べて。

腕は水平より少し下くらいまで上げることが可能。肘は2箇所が可動するため、V字程度まで深く曲げることができます。

脚部ユニット。クタン参型のパーツを一部に流用しつつ、特殊なクロー部分が新規造形で再現されています。内側にも新規造形のリフレクタービットを5基装備。

脚部ユニットは基部とドラゴンヘッドに分離可能。

ユニット基部はクタン参型からの流用で、クロー用の基部がそのままの状態で使用されています。合わせ目ができないパーツ構成で表面のバーニアやドラゴンヘッドのジョイント部分は可動式。

左右のアームはロールやヒンジによる上下への展開が可能。上部の装甲も左右にスイングしますし、ソールを固定する部分も上下に可動します。

ドラゴンヘッド。クタン双竜型の側面装甲マルチユニットで、火炎砲と推進機の機能を持つプレスバーニアが組み込まれているとのこと。黄色い目のモールドがパーツで色分けされるなど、その名の通り竜頭のような生物的な雰囲気を持っています。内側には4基のリフレクタービット（収納状態）を装備。

リフレクタービットは展開状態のものも付属しますが、組み替えることで中間形態も再現することができます。スラスター口は3.0mm穴になっているので、リフレクタービット単体でのディスプレイも可能。

ドラゴンヘッドは3又で幅広く展開可能。劇中では確認できませんでしたが、内部中央にはバーニアが1基造形されています。

腕部と同様、付属のケーブル（リード線）とスタンドを組み付けることで射出状態を再現することができます。ただしこちらの接続ケーブルは5芯で性能の高さを感じさせますね。裏面に3.0mm穴があるので、ドラゴンヘッド単体でのディスプレイが可能。

ちょっとわかりにくいですが、膝は深くまで曲げることができます。

背部もクタン参型のユニットがそのまま流用され、バックパックのようにグレーの基部パーツにガッチリと組み付いています。燃料タンクもグレーの基部パーツに組み付ける形で背面にボリューム感がありますね。

クタン双竜型の基部とクタン参型のユニットとは太めの角型ダボ接続でガッチリと固定されています。ポロリやフラつきは一切なし。

クタン参型のユニットは大部分が流用で、大型可動式アームの基部（赤◯）のみクタン双竜型の新規パーツになります。

各部とも細かくパーツ分割されていてメカニカル。合わせ目などもほとんど見られません。改めてクタン参型の作りの良さを感じますね。

大型可動式アームもクタン参型のものがそのまま流用されています。

燃料タンクもクタン参型からの流用で簡単なモナカ割。側面に合わせ目ができます。モールドはデザイン良く造形。下部バーニアはボールジョイントで少し可動します。

上部左右には滑腔砲を装備。ティフォエウスガンダムで使用したジョイントパーツを使って組み付けます。

スタンドもクタン参型に付属しているものとほぼ同じ。底板が縦に長く幅があり、Y字になっているので重量のあるキットでも安定してディスプレイさせることができます。

また、支柱先端部には新たにジョイントパーツが追加され、ティフォエウスガンダム・キメラがディスプレイできるようになっています。ティフォエウスガンダム・キメラ基部のジョイント穴（赤◯）に組み付けます。支柱には組み換えギミックがないので、キットを斜めにしてのディスプレイはできないみたいですね。

劇中でバトルを繰り広げたENTRY GRADEラーガンダムと並べて。ティフォエウスガンダム・キメラはとにかく巨大。通常の1/144サイズキットの2倍以上の全高があります。多数ユニットの組み合わせですがプロポーションバランスはなかなか秀逸。

HGUCサイコガンダムが手元にないので、HG陸戦型ジム、HGサイコジムと並べて。サイコジムとほぼ同じ大きさ・・・・；サイコガンダムMk-Ⅱが立体化されるのであれば、その巨大さがなんとなく想像できますね；

派手に動かせるわけではないですが、大型キットなので腕を上げ下げするだけでも迫力は十分。あおり視点から見るだけで十分にその強靭さを感じることができます。

背面から見ても重厚感が凄いです。後ろから見るとどことなくジオングっぽい姿に見えなくもない・・・・。

肩の大型可動式アームを展開させれば、ティフォエウスガンダムを内部に格納した状態でもGNビームライフルなどで射撃体勢を取ることができます。

GNビームライフルはフレームのジョイント下部に組み付け可能。

リード線を使用して腕部射出状態を再現。迫力ある有線攻撃を再現することができます。腕部に重量があるため、支柱を使わずに浮かせてディスプレイさせることはできませんでした。

腕部で襲いかかるようなシーンも演出可能。劇中以上の迫力が味わえるのが良いですね。

脚部ユニットも展開して。腕部も含め、四肢全ての射出状態を再現すれば、圧巻の攻撃シーンを演出することができます。向かうところ敵なしといったところ。スタンドが軽量でどうしても持っていかれやすいので、うまく調整しながらディスプレイさせたいですね。

ティフォエウスガンダムの股間部ボールジョイントだけで脚部ユニットなどを支えているため、あまり左右に開脚させたりできないのが泣き所。脚部ユニットをイジったり射出状態でグリグリ動かしたりしていると、股間部が外れることもあるので注意です。

 

Display the Reflector Bit Kai in its expanded state. The support columns can be rearranged freely, so the Reflector Bit Kai can be scattered all over the display.

Next up is a review of the Mobile Fortress “Kutan Twin Dragon Type.”

■ Mobile Fortress “Kutan Twin Dragon Type”

To transform into the Kutan Twin Dragons type, first disassemble the Typhoeus Gundam, smoothbore cannon, and leg units.

Adjust the positions of the arms and large adjustable arms, then remove the red cover part in the center of the back.

Attach the nose to the center of the tip, and use the joint parts ( red circles ) to attach the leg units to the left and right.

Once the smoothbore cannon is attached to the top via the joint parts, the transformation into the Kutan Ssangyong type is complete.

Mobile Fortress “Kutan Twin Dragon Type”. A unit that forms the Typhoeus Gundam Chimera, it is a flying form based on the Kutan Type 3.

The Kutan Twin Dragons from various angles. The left and right leg units are simply locked together, and there are no other locking mechanisms. However, the joints are very strong, and the fixing strength of each part is also high, so the shape will not easily collapse.

By adjusting the balance nicely, it can stand on its own without a stand.

The nose section is taken from the Kutan 3 model. The canopy is colored in clear green parts. The mold is also mechanically sculpted.

The base part of the smoothbore gun can roll. The muzzle can be moved left and right. The body can also be moved up and down a little.

If you want to display it floating, rearrange the joint parts of the support and attach it to the lower joint hole ( red circle ) of the Kutan 3 model. It is firmly fixed, so the kit can be displayed stably without wobbling.

However, the included stand does not allow you to adjust the angle, so the display angle is limited. The joint parts are compatible with the action base, so if you want to change the angle, it would be a good idea to use the action base.

Even in this Mobile Fortress state, the Dragon Head can be deployed, and the Psycho Gundam Mk-II arms can also be deployed. When deployed, they take on a biological appearance. The appearance of each unit deployed is truly spectacular.

Please feel free to take a few.

It is so huge that even a simple display of it is impressive. Even if you simply pose it, you can fully experience its power. Despite being a combination of many kits, the proportions are well balanced and the poses look great. The arms of the new Psycho Gundam Mk-II are also well sculpted and faultless.

One point of concern is that the legs are supported solely by ball joints in the crotch area of the Tifoeus Gundam, making it a bit difficult to move the legs. Even when the legs are spread out, they sometimes droop or come off accidentally, so you may need to pay some attention to this point.

The Tifoeus Gundam itself has a high level of perfection, and can be posed as a stand-alone figure. The combined separation gimmick is also enjoyable enough, and the kit is easy to handle since it is fixed firmly in place. The abundant gimmicks, such as the ejection gimmick of the arms and Dragon Head, the deployment of the reflector bit modification, and the transformation to Mobile Fortress, make this kit quite playable and has an impressive play value, which is good.
