About the Series

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray
Another story that takes place in the same world and time period as “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.” The main characters are Lowe, a boy who works at a junkshop collecting and repairing broken things, and Gai, a mercenary who lives behind the scenes of war. The story begins when the two accidentally obtain a mobile suit called Astray. Most of the story is serialized in magazines, but it also develops across various works, including comics, novels, and photo stories using models. Part of the charm of “Astray” is the interweaving of all these mediums to create a work connecting to the “SEED” anime.

This is a review of METAL BUILD Gundam Astray Blue Frame (fully equipped with weapons) -PROJECT ASTRAY-.

The whole body. The Blue Frame has been released before, but this time the legs and other parts have been revamped with the Red Dragonics, the waist has also been improved, and the texture has changed considerably from polycarbonate to painted this time.

Face. The head sculpt remains the same as the previous version and other frames. The antennae were painted metallic in the previous version, but this time they are plain blue, giving a more subdued impression.

The eyes are painted metallic as usual, the forehead is a clear part, and the paintwork is accurate.

From below too.

Each part, etc. The chest and abdomen are newly sculpted. Like the antennae, the blue has been changed from metallic to normal paint, and there are no markings, so it looks much simpler than the previous version.

Waist.

Arms and legs. The shoulder armor is the same as the Red Frame Kai model, but the arms are the same as the old version. The legs are the same as the Red Dragonix, but thinner than the old version.

The shoulder markings are asymmetrical. This is also simpler than the previous version.

back.

The gimmick of being able to lower the backpack is the same as always.

The chest and waist have been newly sculpted, the internal joints have been reworked, and the swing range of the waist is much wider than before.

The waist joint and the center waist part are linked, so when you lean forward, the center waist part slides down.

option.

Complete pedestal.

The head has been replaced and it is equipped with a beam rifle and shield.

Newly designed complete sensor head.

Apparently this was newly designed for this occasion, with the clear visor, antennae, and chin giving it a unique look.

From underneath. Gai Murakumo is wearing sunglasses, so the visor matches that image.

Beam rifle. The design remains the same as before.

It can be mounted on the side armor by raising the pin on the side.

Shield. Same here.

Back side. The joints are unchanged.

The peephole opening and closing gimmick is the same.

Fully equipped with weapons. The equipment is the same as the previous version, but some parts have been changed.

behind.

Recoilless rifle. This has the same design as the old version, but the paint on the magazine has been removed, making it look less impressive than before.

The scope and sensor can be moved independently.

An 8-barreled short-range guided missile launcher. The structure remains the same. It is equipped using the weapon rack on the back.

behind.

It can also be held by hand using the grip.

A triple short-range guided missile launcher. In the old version, this was attached to a special armored part covering the shin, but this time it is inserted directly into the hole in the calf.

The back. It looks less good, but this is how it is in the manga version, so it might be more accurate than the old version.

The backpack is lowered from the back and a weapon rack is attached. A recoilless rifle and an 8-barrel short-range guided missile launcher are mounted on the left and right, and a rifle is mounted on the bottom.

As usual, the backpack joint for the Astray is also included, allowing you to equip the Aile Striker and Kaletwluff.

The old version of the Blue Frame was released in December 2016. Most of the body has been remodeled, and the texture has been changed from polycarbonate to paint, and the color has also changed. The armor on the shins has been removed, and the number of 8-barreled short-range guided missile launchers has been reduced from two to one. The price has been reduced from 24,840 yen to 44,000 yen.

Just a few at a time.

The joints have been redesigned from the previous version, so movement has improved considerably.

The recoilless rifle is held in both hands. The hip joint has also been improved this time, so the mobility is the best of all the Astrays so far.

There was no problem with kneeling. However, perhaps due to individual differences, some of the joints were too stiff, and it was particularly difficult to turn the waist.

There is one less 8-barreled short-range guided missile launcher than in the previous version, but since it was originally a bonus part it doesn’t bother me.

Beam sabers are also included. The beam blade is quite large.

In light clothing.

The head is replaced with a new complete sensor head.

This one was also interesting because of its unique and fresh design.

The end. This concludes the review of METAL BUILD Gundam Astray Blue Frame (Full Weapon Equipment) -PROJECT ASTRAY-. It’s
natural that the price has gone up compared to the past, but the increase was more than I expected, so I was a bit shocked. However, compared to the old version, most of the body shape has changed, and the texture has been changed from polycarbonate to paint, so it looks much better, and the product itself was quite satisfactory.
The mobility has also improved significantly from the old version, such as the waist and legs, so the freedom of posing has increased, and although some options have been reduced, such as the shin armor and 8-barreled short-range guided missile launcher, there are some parts that have been added, such as the addition of a complete sensor head, so I personally had no particular complaints about the content.
It seems that the Metal Build Astray series will continue to develop from here, but personally I would like to prioritize other units, as I would be fine with one Astray every two or three years.
