This is a review of the HG Gundam Barbatos.

The entire Gundam frame. This is included in a fully assembled state, so no assembly is required. It is quite expensive, but the colors and other details are reproduced in detail.

Face. As with the 1/100 scale model, the eyes are still intact. The design is such that it can be identified as a face even without the exterior, such as the antennae and silhouette.

The eyes are pearlescent, not metallic. There is a lot of detail and color, and it was made very precisely.

Each part, etc. The gold color that was a sticker on the 1/100 scale model is now painted. Each cylinder is plated for a flashy finish.

Around the waist. Some of the joints are made of alloy, but compared to Metal Build, it is used less and doesn’t feel very heavy.

The arms and legs are much more flashy than the 1/100 model, which was all gray. Some parts, such as the joints and legs, are also made of die-cast.

back.

The movement is a bit peculiar, with the shoulders rising high and the hips swinging widely, but the elbows only bend a little more than 90 degrees.

The hip joint moves widely and the knees bend deeply, so the ground contact is decent.

The waist can only rotate about 30 degrees due to interference. The cylinders in each part can also be moved according to the movement.

The shoulder armor can move individually. There are parts connected to the chest and shoulders by BJ, but because of the shape, they come off easily when you turn the shoulder.

The frame is the same as the 1/100 Barbatos. The head sticks out and the torso is raised, so it looks bigger, but the eye height is almost the same.

The rear. Because it is so tall, the details are different and the cylinders, which were previously just molded, are now almost completely reproduced as separate parts.

Since this is a special specification product, the runners are also roughly. The runners for the main body are mostly pre-painted, either metallic or clear with a painted backing.

The white exterior is pearlescent painted. The metallic runners are mostly on the undergate.

The grey main body, brown parts, and other parts used for weapons were the same standard molding colour as Gunpla.

The Barbatos is completed with the exterior parts on. The torso is massive and the limbs are slender, giving it more pronounced proportions than the 1/100 scale model.

Face. The gray antenna is unpainted, so the coloring remains the same as the 1/100 scale model. The gold is matte-plated, and the red is metallic, giving it a very flashy look.

If you look at it without any preconceptions it looks cool, but Barbatos doesn’t really have that kind of flashy image, so people may either love it or hate it.

From below too.

Each part, etc. The chest has been uniquely arranged and the mark on the chest is reproduced in clear. The exposed frame is also flashy and the amount of information has been greatly increased.

The waist area and the shape of the front armor have also been changed. It looks sharper and more demonic.

The arms and legs are slimmer than the 1/100 scale model. The coloring is perfect, and the white parts are given a more detailed look with the addition of gray in various places.

The calf parts are movable.

Back. There are no holes like in the HG or 1/100 scale models, probably for the sake of appearance. There is one in the center of the waist, however.

The backpack can be deployed in complex ways, including sliding and extending arms for weapon mounting. The central thruster is also movable.

The mobility is somewhat restricted by the addition of the exterior, and the hip joints, which had a wide range of movement when they were on the frame, are now restricted in their forward and backward movement.

It can move widely to the side. Other parts haven’t changed much.

Optional. No dedicated stand etc.

Equipped with a smoothbore cannon and a sword on the back.

The smoothbore gun is deployed from the backpack, and the sword is mounted using an adapter. Both are attached by pulling out the brown parts.

Tachi. The blade is very thin and the tip is sharp. However, the grip part is short.

Smoothbore gun. Just like the 1/100 model, it can be deployed without any replacement parts. All colors are reproduced exactly as in the original design.

Like the 1/100 model, the lower part with the grip is a sliding type. The grip itself is also movable. The sensor part is a sticker.

The arms are also built into the backpack, so they can be deployed without using any additional parts.

Although the diameter is not a perfect fit, it is possible to use the handle for the long sword to hold the mace that comes with the 1/100 Barbatos 6th form.

The 1/100 Barbatos. Various parts have been modified and the proportions have changed significantly.

The rear. Naturally, the exterior and frame were painted, so the texture was different.

It’s also a decent metal build. There are no markings, but it doesn’t look out of place next to the SEED series, which has a lot of metallic paint.

Just a few at a time.

The waist doesn’t move much, so it’s difficult to make flashy fighting poses. Also, because it has a cylinder, you have to be more careful than with a normal figure.

It is impossible to hold the sword firmly with both hands. When you turn your shoulder, the frames and cylinders on the front and back of the shoulder come off easily, which is troublesome.

For these reasons and more, moving and playing with it was much more difficult than with a normal Gundam model kit.

A thrust while falling. The long sword was treated less favorably than the mace, but since it is still equipped as of the final episode, there may be a chance.

The smoothbore cannon is movable, so it can be deployed just like the 1/100 model.

The appearance is greatly improved by the fine color-coding that is on par with MG, but since it is a molded color it looks inferior to the main body.

Also, since it is quite heavy, the backpack can fall apart when you move it around while it is on your back.

Although the feet cannot be lifted very much, kneeling is not too difficult as the foot has good contact with the ground.

A mace is not included this time, but since it is the same 1/100 scale, if you use the one that comes with the 6th form there will be no problem in size.

This gun has a long handle so you can hold it with both hands. However, you can’t move it around much due to the cylinders on your hips and shoulders.

Just remove the shoulders and crush the Graze. This Barbatos is all shiny, so it looks a bit odd when lined up with the plastic model.

The duel is decided. Who would have thought that this matter would drag on until the very end?

This concludes the review of the High Resolution Model Gundam Barbatos.
It’s a rather unique product with a finished frame and a runner format with some parts such as the exterior already painted, but as it’s quite expensive, the frame is very detailed, alloy is used for the joints, and the exterior is almost all painted with Hi-Resolution’s own arrangements, so it’s quite elaborate.
However, although most of the main body is painted, some parts and the glide gun are in the molded color, so it looks a little strange when you look at it up close, and the movement is limited by cylinders, mainly around the shoulders of the upper body, so it seems like a product with a very peculiar appearance and movement.
Also, for a Barbatos that has a rugged image, it has a flashy finish with pearl and metallic, so people’s tastes may differ in that regard, but at this point it can be said to be almost the definitive version, so if you don’t mind the various quirks, I think you’ll be satisfied. I’m also curious to see if it will continue as a series with other Gundams in the future.
